Burnout and Rest by Bailey Morgan

School is now underway. Everyone has gotten back into the hectic mornings, piles of homework, and splitting up for everyone’s after school activities and sports. When children are young a routine has always been pushed for a child’s success. But, what happens when that routine leaves no room for friends, family, or relaxation, self-care?

Burnout is a state of emotional, mental, and often physical exhaustion brought on by repeated stress.

Sometimes with a busy life it can be easy to use necessities, such as taking a shower, and twist them into self-care. However, that is not solving the burnout problem. The key to decreasing the burnout state is to connect with your body and understand the type of rest and recovery it needs. There are 7 different types of rest that your body may be craving.

  1. Physical Rest - Sleep, relaxation, and napping
  2. Mental Rest - Taking breaks during work, meditation
  3. Sensory Rest - Taking a break from screen time, sensory grounding
  4. Emotional Rest - Being authentic with our emotions
  5. Social Rest - Alone time
  6. Creative Rest - Decrease pressure, go outside,
  7. Spiritual Rest - Adding spirituality, meditation or purpose to life

If you’re suffering from sensory overload or had a busy week socializing and just try and get a good night’s sleep, you’re going to wake up still feeling exhausted. The key is understanding the context surrounding your feelings. Contact us today if you’re feeling overwhelmed!
